Case Study #13: Rodent Control Company (118 #1 Map Rankings)
Client name, website and service regions have been withheld.
The Situation: When someone finds rats in the attic, they don't browse. They search, look at the three businesses in Google's map, and call one. For a rodent control company serving several metro regions, winning that map spot in each region is what keeps the phone ringing.
The Snapshot (October 2026, Semrush):
- ~6,600 estimated monthly organic visits, up 259% in the report's comparison period
- 126 local map pack rankings, 118 of them at #1
- 97.8% of estimated traffic from non-branded searches
- ~$94,800/month estimated traffic value in equivalent ad spend, up 327%
- 2,208 ranking keywords
The Map Pack Does the Heavy Lifting: About 93% of the company's estimated organic traffic came from Google's local map results, not the standard blue links. Each region's Google Business Profile points to its own regional landing page, backed by city-level service pages.
Local map pack: 6,190 visits (93.3%)
Standard organic listings: 429 visits (6.5%)
AI Overviews & other features: 18 visits (0.3%)
Top Map Rankings:
| Keyword | Placement | Monthly searches |
|---|---|---|
| mouse exterminator near me | Map #1 | 14,800 |
| rodent exterminator | Map #1 in two regions | 8,100 |
| rat control rodent control | Map #2 | 4,400 |
| rat control services | Map #1 | 880 |
| rodent control [county] | Map #1 | 720 |
| pest control rats mice | Map #1 | 390 |
| attic rodent cleanup | Map #1 | 140 |
"Rodent exterminator" alone accounted for about 46% of estimated traffic across the two regional listings that held first place.
Room to Grow: In the standard organic results the site has 21 keywords in the top three, 123 in positions 4–10 and another 327 on page two. The broad term "rodent control" (about 60,500 searches a month) sits at position 25, which is a big opportunity for the next phase.
The Takeaway: For urgent local services, the map pack is where customers decide. Connecting each Google Business Profile to a strong regional page, and backing it with city pages, can dominate the searches that turn into calls.
About These Numbers: Figures come from a Semrush Domain Overview (US desktop, October 14, 2026) and an Organic Research positions export (October 13, 2026). Traffic, traffic value and search volume are third-party estimates, not verified calls or revenue. Percentage changes are Semrush's own period comparison; total keywords were down 8% in that comparison and month-to-month traffic varies.
